Truthful Tuesday (September 15, 2020)

TRANSCRIPT
(This episode is partially transcribed by computer and may contain small errors. If quoting this podcast, please refer to the original audio.)

Each week a new theme. Each day 10 minutes to focus our mindset on what matters. I'm Sarah Parker, Wolf, and you're listening to the FOCUSED INTENTION PODCAST. Thanks for joining me.

This week's theme is "GOOD INTENTIONS" and today is Truthful Tuesday which means today we tell it like it is.

Thank you so much for joining me for another episode of the FOCUSED INTENTION PODCAST. Welcome to Truthful Tuesday. I hope you were able to join us for Motivation Monday yesterday. If you didn't go back and check us out or check out one of our other themed episodes from weeks past. Today we're talking truth about "GOOD INTENTIONS", so let's get started.

Since I was a little kid, I was a writer, not always on paper, but in my head there was and still is always a constant run of dialogue and in my imagination I am having conversations and making arguments that will most likely never, ever happen now. That might be good when writing some fiction, but when we interact with people, real people in real situations already knowing what will say is not even close to interacting with "GOOD INTENTIONS".

Let's think about that... but but but you might say I just want to be prepared. And I ask prepared for what a speech? If there is truly a conversation there, we have two jobs talking -- of course, and that's right...listening. How can we pre-script a conversation when we don't know exactly what the other person will say, or even more importantly, how they will say it?

Let's just take a minute to think of all those people we're going to listen to or interact with today. Are we moving into each of those interactions with an open mind and an open heart, or have we already decided our feelings and responses and reactions before we even begin?

And, if you're thinking, “but I know what she's going to say.” Maybe, but you'll only know for sure by listening. And even if that person says what we thought they'd say if we're really listening, we may just hear in a new way.

So starting today, let's decide to truly listen and be present in our interactions. To go into any conversation with good intent, ready to consider issues from all sides before we respond mindfully.

Today's intention is: I listen and consider issues from all sides. I listen and consider issues from all sides. Ooh, that's a hard one.

Now remember, that doesn't mean that you have to agree with someone or that you can't respond. It simply means that we are moving into our interactions with the good intention to listen.

Alright, let's really internalize today's intention. Take a nice deep breath through your nose, hold it at the top. Okay, let's do it one more time. Slow it down just a little bit. Inhale and exhale and say to ourselves...
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.
I listen and consider issues from all sides.

Thank you so much for spending your time with me today. And I hope you'll join me every day for the FOCUSED INTENTION PODCAST. If you were enjoying what you hear, please subscribe or follow.
